Green chilly chicken is a simple and easy chicken curry yet slightly spicy; made with green chilly, onions and a bunch of greens. A perfect side dish for rice or roti.
I learnt this recipe from a show hosted by Chef Ranveer Brar. He shared his experience of army mess where he tasted this dish for the first time. I have always been fascinated about Indian Army, so I decided to try this recipe from the kitchen of army mess.
Let’s check out the ingredients
Chicken 1kg, onions 1/2kg, green chillies 250 – 300gms, bunch of coriander leaves, garlic pods 8 to 10, tomatoes 2 medium sized, mustard oil 2 tbsp, garam masala 1/2 tsp and desi ghee 2tsp.
For marinating wash chicken pieces and keep it in a vessel, add 1/2 kg sliced onion, 8 to 10 chopped green chillies n 1tsp salt to it and mix them properly. Keep it aside for an hour.
Chop the bunch of coriander leaves, garlic pods, 12 to 15 green chillies and grind them properly.
Now in a pan heat oil, add the marinated chicken to it and stir it well, don’t fry it. Close the lid n let it cook on low flame for 15 to 20 mins. Open the lid of the pan, add the grounded paste and salt mix it properly with chicken and let it cook for another 10 to 15 mins. Now add some chopped tomatoes to it. Close the lid and let it cook for another 20 to 30 mins. Stir it up occasionally. Before putting off the flame sprinkle some garam masala and a spoon or two of desi ghee to the dish. Spicy Green chilly chicken is ready to serve.
It was the most simplest way I ever prepared chicken and it was the yummiest one. The sweetness of onions, the spiciness of green chillies and the aroma of coriander leaves was added to every bite of chicken. Do try it and let me know how was your experience.
